The garden design is coming together slowly but surely and we have plans to try to start by the end of the month. It's part invigorating, part odd to be doing this all alone without any input (or snide remarks) from a contractor. That being said, it's a huge undertaking and I'm wary that we are going to make some big rooky mistake. So in order to cut down the odds of that I've registered for classes at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. Our first class, From Design to Done: How to Implement a Brownstone Garden starts at the end of September so I'm pumped to get our design finalized and show it to a group of professionals that might be able to nudge us in the right direction. Here's the class description:
You have grand ideas for the garden of your dreams, but how do you make them happen? For the determined gardener who's ready to turn dream into reality, this course covers all the necessary aspects of implementation. Gain a realistic overview of how to carry out a professional garden project in a step-by-step, practical, and feasible fashion. Meet designers, masons, carpenters, and project managers who will advise you on everything from drawing a simple site plan, managing crews (whether professionals or friends), and developing a plant list to installing your stonework or brick patio. Students will leave feeling confident enough to tackle their projects and deal with contractors with more ease.
Learning new things rocks!
Oh man, I'm so scared of landscaping. I don't know why. You're a braver woman than I am. I still haven't finished my darn retaining wall. Humph. I'm excited to see what a brownstone garden looks like though. Keep us informed!

brave? stupid? these words are starting to sound like synonyms when it comes to our landscaping undertakings, but we're going to do it anyway and I'm sure we'll document every painful step along the way
