Holy Crap—best news ever! We got our Certificate of Occupancy today! What's does that mean, it means we're done. Over. Finito. The construction is done and we can just go on with our lives and put this whole unpleasantness behind us. We can breathe a big sigh of relief and put a long unpleasant chapter of our life behind us. This is what I feel like doing right now…
I'll let the happiness consume me for a few days before I start ripping in to the the people and process that made this renovation a never-ending, problem filling mess. I'll tell you all about how this isn't really the end, how we now have a long road of work ahead of us correcting the many, many fuck-ups around the house, but at least we can do it without beaurocracy and a whole cast of incompetent people getting in our way. But for now I want to bask and be happy. But in a couple of days, I stop holding my tongue and will tell you all about what really went down…get ready for it…

Congratulations! You've been waiting long and working hard for this, I think you deserve it!

Thanks so much Tijmen--it's nice to know there are people out there who still support on us this project.

Hi Dana,
It's so funny, because I don't know you personally at all, but I've seen so much of your house, it's almost like I've worked there myself.
Last week I visited a friends house for the first time. He did some remodeling too (though not as extensive as you, the whole house was 8 years old and he's the first inhabitant). It's funny because the layout of his house was completely different than what I had in mind!
Unfortunately NY is not around the corner (I see Google Maps has disabled it's "swim across the Atlantic ocean" routefinding) so it's kind of hard to just drive off and pay you a quick visit :-P
Well, good luck with the last bits and I hope to see many updates soon,
Tijmen

Hehe, even though I don't know you personally, I have the feeling I do know your house.
Last weekend, I first visited the house of an internet friend who did some rebuilding and posted it on his weblog. It was so funny because even though I had seen a lot of photos, his house had a completely different layout than I had imagined ;-)
It'd be fun to visit your house once, unfortunately, NY isn't exactly around the corner for me...
