It's been a strange week over here—a weird combination of finishing work and demolition is going on. We also found a hidden room in the house, but alas, no Jimmy Hoffa. Dammit!
The green and blue one inch glass tile started appearing in the master bathroom. Albeit still covered in plastic and held straight with tape and nails
The big stucco wall in the basement got a coat of the light green paint
But the hidden room still trumps the developments of the week thus far. Demolition began on Eric's bathroom up on the third floor, in what will be the top rental apartment and back behind the toilet was a tiny little room, about 3 feet x 4 feet, completely walled over and sporting its original green paint. My guess is that it was walled over in the late 50's as that is when most of the work was done in this house. Even more strange was the fact that there was an ancient light switch and bulb in the room…and—THEY STILL WORK! Eerie…
You can sort of get an idea of the size of the room here and you can see the light switch. The old wall was flush against the back of the toilet.
Here's the light bulb and ceiling of the hidden room
In fact, the whole drop ceiling on the top floor leaves at least 5-6 feet of wasted ceiling room. I wonder if it will be possible to reclaim it.
Poor little bathroom, it's now just a freestanding toilet for the guys to use and a shower body in the middle of nowhere with a bucket. And the smell and stains from years of water damage are pretty gross.
But none of that stopped Eric from trying to shower in there

Wow...secret room WITH a working light bulb...that's all kinds of cweepy!
Bathroom tile is looking mighty fine!
